1 : Take care of your resume presentation

 

In order to make employers want to read your CV and to keep their attention, it is important that you take care of your CVs presentation. To do this, you must organize your CV content by section.

First of all, there will be the header of your CV, where you can write your contact information (with a contact phone number and an email address that you consult regularly). Then, you can put the content of your CV, i.e. your work experience, your education and your skills. The order of the sections is not fixed. To help you attract the attention of employers, post what is most relevant to the position first. For example, if the position requires a diploma that you have, you can post your education first. If the position requires experience, you can post the experience first and so on.

It is important to have a CV that is not too full and that is well presented so that employers will want to read it. It is also important to limit the information you wish to include in your CV and to tailor your CV to the position for which you are applying.

The nuance is important; too much information in your CV will give the impression that you are bragging, but on the other hand, a CV that lacks information could lead to mistrust from the employers.

Ideally, your CV should be one or two pages long, with well-defined headings as explained above.

 

2 : Write your work experience correctly in your CV

 

This is the most important part of your resume and the one that will attract the most attention from employers.

To begin with, think about the experiences you have had in the past and list them from the most recent to the oldest. Then, you can expand on these experiences by explaining the tasks you had to perform.

Once again, it is important to limit the number of experiences you want to put in your CV: the goal is not to write a book on the jobs you have held, but to make a selection of your most relevant experiences.

As for the tasks to be developed, you should explain the tasks you have carried out in your job (also making a selection of the most relevant tasks for the position you are applying for). We advise you to start each point corresponding to a task with an action verb: this will be more striking for your reader and will give the impression that you were proactive in your previous jobs.

A little bonus to make your reader want to choose you: try to include keywords in your development, especially keywords that you might have seen in the job ad for which you are applying.

You should also think about quantifying your information, for example: say from which year to which year you carried out such and such an assignment.

3 : Stand out with your CV by the skills you have acquired

 

Another very important section that can make the employer choose you and not someone else: skills.

Skills can include: spoken and written languages, computer skills, technical skills related to your job.

For languages, we recommend that you enter your language levels by choosing one of the following adjectives: elementary, intermediate, advanced or mastered. We recommend that you only include on your CV those languages for which you have an intermediate level or higher.

For computer skills, you only need to list the software you master, whether it is Microsoft 365, Google or the Adobe suite for example.

For technical skills, you should mention specific knowledge related to your work.

Use the skills section to highlight points that you may not have had the opportunity to do in the other sections of your resume.

 

4 : A few other tips for writing your CV

 

Making a personalized CV is a must: that’s how you will manage to stand out from the other candidates. To do this, avoid taking pre-written resumes from the web. Of course, you can use pre-existing templates for the layout, but try as much as possible to write a CV that looks like you and highlights your personality.

It is imperative that you remember to correct spelling mistakes! Use software that corrects spelling mistakes or show it to your friends and family. Try to get as much editing as possible to make sure you don’t miss any mistakes!

Also, if you are applying for different positions, don’t hesitate to adapt your resume to each position by changing the keywords and modifying the text describing yourself in the header.
