Despite the current economic climate, companies continue to invest in IT and tech positions!
The Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA), a non-profit association dedicated to the growth of the world’s information technology (IT) industry and workforce, released a report on this topic just a few weeks ago.
They noted that IT recruitment in Canada will continue to grow in 2022 following a year that saw employers hire over 100,000 tech workers.
The 5 most in-demand IT jobs
While IT jobs are popping up all over the country, some positions are in greater demand. Some of the most in-demand IT jobs in the country:
- Data scientists. They allow businesses to obtain better information, improving the decision-making process along the way.
- Developers. Whether they develop websites or mobile and full-stack apps, developers are behind many corporate online platforms. In the age of the Internet and remote work, it’s impossible to do without them.
- Jobs related to cybersecurity. Like developers, cybersecurity experts play a key role in the success of today’s businesses by ensuring that their online security systems are effective and up to date.
- Cloud engineers. Cloud computing has been on everyone’s lips for the past few years. Today, many businesses rely on this technology to operate. Take the retail industry: rather than buying a server to house their information, retailers can use a cloud-based point of sale. This system hosts all sales and inventory data on the Internet, making it accessible from anywhere.
- Chief of technology or information officer. People who hold these positions work with the company’s top management and develop strategies to ensure the proper use of technology within the company. The key to successful long-term results!
Of course, many other IT positions are also in demand.
“Employment options in technology are plentiful at all career levels, from advanced positions for individuals with experience under their belts to entry-level openings that offer good salaries and opportunities for advancement,” Gordon Pelosse, senior vice president for employer engagement at CompTIA, explained in a release.
He also noted that today, all companies can benefit from assistance with their online presence or cyber security.
IT jobs: centred around 3 major Canadian cities
IT and technology jobs are obviously widespread across Canada.
However, it’s clear that the IT community is clustered around major metropolitan areas.
Toronto, for example, is home to the highest concentration of technology jobs (10%) in the country.
This is followed by Montréal (8.3%), Vancouver (7.8%) and Calgary (6.4%), all of which have higher concentrations than the national benchmark (6.3%).
