Prepare for your job interview

This step is crucial! One of the best ways to stand out is to be well prepared, so make sure you research the position you’re applying for and get all the deets on the hiring company and its industry. In short, do your homework!

It’s also a good idea to anticipate some of the more basic questions that may be asked during the job interview. Doing so will allow you to provide precise and relevant answers in a more natural way.

Study your resume

Has it been a while since you’ve thought about the past work experiences featured on your resume? Now’s the time to do it! The person conducting the interview will most probably bring those up. Reflecting on those past jobs will make it easier for you to answer questions using real-life examples.

What’s more, you’ll be able to explain the context in which you acquired some of these skills, which in turn will help highlight essential employee qualities, such as resourcefulness, organizational skills, and a willingness to go the extra mile.

Job interview: set up a mock session with a friend

Ask a friend to set up a mock interview (on the phone or in person) so you can practise your answers. Not only will you get to spend some quality time together, but you’ll also get to rehearse your answers to some of the most common interview questions.

Your friend doesn’t know which questions to ask? Here’s a short list of frequently asked questions that tend to come up during job interviews according to the Government of Quebec.

The great thing about practice is that it helps you feel more confident on the big day.
